To my Son

I wake up every morning

And Hug your mother tight

Wishing I had dreamt of you

While I slept through the night

I know the day is beckoning

I’ve so much work ahead

But I just want to hold your mom

And spend all day in bed

Once I’m up and moving

I plaster on my smile

And through the day I think of you

And chuckle for a while

I drive into the office

Say hi to those I see

I note their lives are going on

They can’t wait up for me

Deadlines keep on moving

The days keep rolling by

I want the world to stop a while

And breathe a great big sigh

I know I won’t get over you

You’re so much of my heart

For now I’ll find new normal

As long as we’re apart

But some day, if I’m worthy

I’ll walk again with you

We’ll laugh and talk for hours

When my time on earth is through
