Shattered Dreams: A Poem

You Will Always Be My One And Only

You brought so much love to me
In a way I had never experienced before
You thrilled me, you delighted me
You were the one I'd been pleading for

You made me believe in true love
Finally, my lonely days were through
Sweet tenderness sent from heaven above
My girlish dreams at last came true

All my life I'd been waiting just for you
I loved you, I adored you
I laid my life and future before you
I belonged to you and you belonged to me
Our happiness was there for the world to see

Though I felt you belonged to me
As I belonged to you
I did not possess you
You were not mine to keep

My dream came to a cruel end
When you had to go to heaven far away
And here on earth I have to say
It is more than my broken heart can comprehend

Please tell me it’s just a terrible mistake
That here on earth we still have a future ahead
It came too quick you see, I just wasn’t ready
Now I have only memories and days filled with dread

But you are still my love and my life
Even though I will never be your wife
You will always be my one and only
Even though without you I am so very lonely
