The Day God Stopped the Rain for Me
Today, on Thursday 19 February 2015, I laid a memorial plaque for my love at the Victoria Bay memorial site. I bought a beautiful Cape protea flower to lay there too.
It is a grey overcast day. My intention was to lay the plaque, take some photos and read my Bible there. As I started walking towards the site the rain came down, harder and harder. Within a minute I was soaking wet to the skin and disheartened that I could now not do this. I would not be able to lay the plaque – it would not stick – I would not be able to open my Bible and read it. The rain was coming down harder and harder and from the look of the darkness in the sky it was here to stay…
I would not have this moment taken from me. I spoke out loud, addressing the Lord: “Jesus, I need this rain to stop. I need to do this please. I can’t do this in the rain”. The rain lightened while I was still walking and I immediately thanked Him, repeating “Thank you Jesus” with every step. Moments later before I reached the site the rain stopped completely! Call it coincidence if you like, but for me it was proof of God’s love: the day He stopped the rain for me!!!
I took my time – I did not fear for a moment that the rain would catch me again. I knew God had granted this time to me to do what I needed. The sun even came out – I heard a passer-by comment at how strange for the sun to come out.
I laid the plaque, the flower and sat on the bench next to the plaque read the Song of Songs. I spoke to my love. I read a Psalm and spoke to God and thanked Him again for my miracle. So unbelievable. I witnessed the power of God first-hand and marvelled anew at His great love – so great that He was willing to put out His hand and hold back the curtain of rain for me at my heartfelt request.
I almost laughed aloud when more than an hour later, as I was walking back to the car it started raining again.
Extracts from Song of Songs
(a love story from the Bible)
“Place me like a seal over you heart, like a seal on your arm,
For love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave.
It burns like blazing fire – like a mighty flame.
Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away.
If one were to give all the wealth of one’s house for love,
it would be utterly scorned”.
“Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires…
How is your beloved better than others that you so charge us,
most beautiful of women? (you ask)
My beloved is radiant and ruddy, outstanding among ten thousand.
His head is purest gold; his hair is wavy and black as raven.
His eyes are like doves by the water streams, washed in milk,
mounted like jewels.
His cheeks are like beds of spice yielding perfume.
His lips are like lilies dripping with myrrh.
His arms are rods of gold set with topaz
His body is like polished ivory decorated with lapis lazuli.
His legs are pillars of marble set in bases of pure gold.
His appearance is like Lebanon – choice as its cedars.
His mouth is sweetness itself; he is altogether lovely.
This is my beloved, this is my friend”
