All dogs go to Heaven

As a little girl like so many I lost a pet or two. My dad always prayed for the particular pet that he was about to bury he often buried my pets under their favorite trees or favorite laying place in the yard, where ever it may be. When I was in my early teen years I was gifted with a spunky pomperanian whom would be named Lacy, she was a character she loved to chew on spearmint gum which would often make for a nice mess if she forgot to spit it out and would end up in her mane, she loved flower seeds yes flower seeds she would chew them up and spit out the shell.

Lacy was with me through it all. She was with me when I got my first boyfriend, when I married and she was there when I brought home my two baby boys, she was a curious girl sure she was aged by now as I was now in my mid 20s. One day after bathing my newest baby he layed on the couch waiting a fresh diaper when his umbilical cord became loose and fell off, I sat it to the side, when curious Lacy came over and grabbed the umbilical cord off the couch and ate it, oh yes she swallowed that thing before I could even react to what she had just done.

Three years passed she became sick and eventually passed away outside my old bedroom door, she waited for me to get home from work to take her final breaths. I had this girl for over 15 years. At this time my dad was already ill and unable to bury her, so now it was time for my husband to take over for my dad, he did. He buried Lacy under favorite shady tree in our backyard, I on the other hand was a complete mess.

6 years later my dad would be laying on his bed with tears coming down his face, he had been battling a rare form of parkinsons disease for 10 years now. He would cry for Lacy I believe she was greeting him at the gates of Heaven about 2 weeks later he would pass on. I had always believed as a little girl that when one of my beloved pets passed away that they had gone to doggie or cat heaven. My dad reassured me that on his last days as he was seeing her. About the Author

I am a mother to teenage boys, happily married to a man that has been with me through so much and by my side through it all. My father passed away 10/07/14 a day that has forever changed me and my family. This my grief journey, I have always almost written him poems whether it be for his birthdays, father's day or just to write him a little something, the most important poem written for my dad was the poem that was to be used in his memorial. These are writings that help me through a certain day, maybe after hearing a certain song that brings back memories or seeing his favorite snack down the chip aisle, stirring up emotion that I try to block.I will forever be his daughter.

I'm Grieving, Now What?
