Meet my friend Lisa. She and I met at a conference where she shared a little of her story. Just a few months earlier Lisa had lost part of her heart, with the death of her beloved sister, Brandi. As you might imagine the pain is still incredibly fresh as she and her family make their way through all the firsts- holidays and special days since Brandi’s death.
Lisa told me she had been reading through A Time to Heal, a grief journal when she came across the page about preserving memories. "The story of a life is a treasure worth preserving. As you recall long ago and recent memories, write them here to help keep them fresh in your mind and close to your heart." At the end of the journaling page is a reference to Philippians 1:3, which inspired Lisa’s beautiful tattoo. She says the words continue to give her strength and comfort. Thank You, Lord for the undeniable power of Your word.
One day Lisa and I discussed the fact that it really is OK to not be OK right now. It’s OK to cry. And it’s OK to laugh.Talking about the person we’re missing, laughing and sharing stories are some of the most awesome ways to honor their life, and be sure their light continues to shine brightly.
Thank you, Lisa for the compelling reminder of your forever love for Brandi~ inscribed on your wrist and heart. Your unshakable faith through this storm is inspiring people more than you know.
In the words of our friends at Open to Hope, “The bravest thing I ever did was continuing my life after you died.” Lisa- you are one brave sister. Sending hugs and love to you today.
"I thank my God every time I remember you." Philippians 1:3
