Timeless in the pines
there were a few years in the 80's
where we lived just north of the forestry
more often than not we would find ourselves in the trees
long walks in the evening
especially if there was moonlight
the flashlights we carried were only a stop gap
and seldom were used al all
about a mile in
a stand of pines stood close to each other
not as tall as the Hickory and Beech
but always green
in the fall which was our favorite time
the golds and reds on the path were breathtaking
but still we loved the pines
many hours of peace
walking through the stand
or laying on a bed of pine needles
with the smell of spruce and the sound of the breeze
the passion we shared in the moonlight
apart from every other soul
made some real changes in the both of us
and even now that I've lost her
I still think of those days
and all that they were
and when I smell evergreen
be it Christmas or the Spruce in the wood
I still see her face in the moonlight
her porcelain skin glimmering
and they way we were back then
when time seemed to go on forever
and we had not a care in the world
the young lovers are old now
and one of us is not
but love itself is timeless
and lives among the pines
