Gloria

With the diagnosis of cancer,

She took the hand of God and did not let go

She needed Him now more than ever before

This was not the time to lose faith or question why

She was not cancer and would not let it define her

She was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt,

A friend and a fighter, who wasn’t yet ready to leave the ring

She took the hand of God and told Him to hold on tight

She needed more time and even He knew better than to question why

Once the prognosis took the inevitable turn for the worse,

God took hold of her other hand, led her through the doors of hospice care

And gave her a few final weeks to receive love from her family and friends,

To say the things that needed to be said and to express her love and gratitude

With His hands on her hands, her sorrow slowly turned to acceptance

This was not the time to lose faith or question why

Her spiritual strength prevailed and she freed herself to go

Hand in hand, God led her through the doors to her final home

and today, there is a new angel living among us

Holding the hands of her family, reminding them that this is not the time to lose faith or question why

In the weeks and years to come, they will feel her presence.

She will be whispering to her husband to close the cabinet doors and drawers

and in every square there will be an angel dancing with him.

She will be supporting her son and daughter by filling the space around them with love

but they should keep in mind, that some angels are bossier than others…

And, sitting in the front row of her grandchildren’s confirmations, graduations, weddings, births and life events,

will be an angel celebrating with them, in spirit, every step of the way

An angel, who will always fight for each one of them to never lose faith or to question why.
