Things I Have Learned About Grief
Things I have learned about Grief
I never really understood my grief until I came out of the fog after losing my mom. People would say the wrong things at the wrong times and friends would abandon me because it was too much to deal with. I read so many articles, books or really anything I could get my hands on to help me with my grief. That’s when I realized not a single book could sum it up, it is different for everyone. I have compiled a list of things I have learned about my own personal grief.
.) Grief changes you as a person
.) Grief can make you realize how strong you really are.
.) Grief shows you who your real friends are.
.) Grief shows you who is not your friend
.) Grief comes and goes like waves
.) Grief can break you or inspire you to keep your loved one’s memory alive.
.) Grief makes you see the world differently.
.) Grief does not have a time frame.
.) Grief can start before your loved one passes. For me it began the day my mom became terminal.
.) Grief is different for every single person.
.) Grief is not something everyone is comfortable talking about with you.
.) Grief doesn’t come with an instruction manual.
.) Grief is something you are never ready for no matter how prepared you think you might be.
.) Grief can attack when you least expect it.
.) Grief is normal
.) Grief doesn’t occur in any particular order.
.) Grief causes you to miss the loved one and miss who you once were before the loss.
.) Grief is messy
.) Grief doesn’t mean you are weak
.) Grief has triggers that hit you out of nowhere. Like at the doctor’s office when filling out forms and they ask for “Family History.”
.) Grief will make some around you nervous. This will cause them to say things that are not the best to say. Forgive them.
.) Grief can make you feel like you are the only person in the world that feels this way.
.) Grief can make you question if there really is a Heaven.
.) Grief forces you to learn how to live life forever missing someone.
