Day to day

I come home and make a drink

Time to cook, no time to think.

Kids and baths then off to bed

Tuck them in those sleepy heads.

And now it's quiet, I'm alone

In this shell that was our home.

I see you still in each doorway

So many things I have left to say.

I try to smile and get through each day

And pray for strength, just one more day.

Don't let them see your deep sorrow

For the best for you they think they know.

Just take a step and force a smile

Keep moving forward,  just one more mile.

Until that day you can lay down

And plant your feet in solid ground.

May the Lord and Lady see me home

As soon as my work here is done

And draw me nigh unto his arms

And keep me safe from this world's harms.

And now I lay me down to sleep

My faith in love I'll always keep.

Sweet love of mine reach out your hand

And pull me into that sweet land

Of joy and peace and happiness

Where our two souls I know are blessed.

When next we meet my sweet love

Know that it was planned far above.

About the Author
My name is Nicki. My husband, Bryan, was hit by a drunk driver on March 27, 2013. He was life flighted to the hospital. The next day I was told there was no hope of him recovering from his injuries. I have lost my Dad and Grandfather, but nothing has ever come close to the pain that I feel since his accident. Every day became a struggle with no hope for relief from the pain. I started writing about Bryan and this new life without him and found some comfort and hope to give comfort to others.
