Words for the Journey

Discover a sanctuary of perspectives, tools, and shared experiences written for people living with grief.

There are moments in time

When I find that I laughed

Like last night when

Oddly I was watching a match.

Your younger brother

Crawled into bed

to watch with me

Just wanting

A little normalcy.

After a bit

Something came over him.

He pulled at my pillows

And with a big grin.

He started to giggle

And Just then,

He wouldn't stop until he

Stolen ALL of them!

He wanted me to smile.

I pulled back on the pillows

I resisted the urge.

But he continued to bait me

And finally I found

A tickle fight had emerged.

He squealed with delight

He got out of control

And pulled at my sheets

And tried to dismantle the bed.

My mind drifted a bit

And found I did shout!

"Steven come here,

I need some HELP!"

Matthew just laughed

He squealed with delight.

The dogs went wild

And jumped all about.

Barking and running

Like they do when

They are riled.

I imagined for a moment

That you rushed to my side.

But my mistake

Your presence was

To help the MAD child.

You jumped on my bed

Jostling it so

Threw off the covers

With a twinkle and a grin.

For a moment in time

You engaged and were here.

We giggled and laughed  and

There was not a tear.

My bed upside down.

Pillows they did fly.

We were silly for a moment

We did not cry.

That moment in time

It felt so real and so true.

Then suddenly i looked

And saw a picture of you.

You're on the mantel.

A wave knocked me down.

Reality set in.

That smile now a frown.

Your brother saw the tears

He stopped at the sight.

He came over to me

Hugged and held me tight.

Honey,

That smile and laugh

That we shared

Was a precious

Gift you did send

Make my mind wander.

Please once again.
