There are people who go through life going through the motions and truly believing that they have control over their lives and the lives of their loved ones. We used to be those people, until one day we got a phone call letting us know our 25-year old son Ricky was involved in a car accident and he had not survived. Needless to say, that day changed our lives and our outlook on life forever.

I remember New Year’s Eve, December 31, 1994. Nina loved any opportunity for a celebration. She invited a couple of her high school friends over, planned games, tried some new recipes, and bought her customary bottle of sparkling apple cider to drink out of plastic champagne glasses. Nina rivaled Martha Stewart when it came to her enthusiasm for entertaining!
I’ve never been a huge fan of the New Year’s Eve celebrations.
