Calling in the "call if you need anything," offers!
I heard the coolest idea for getting the help you need it after loss.
During Q and A at a grief seminar, the topic was, “What do you do with all the people who say, ‘call if you need anything?’ I’m never sure how to answer that question.”
A woman in the audience raised her hand and said she had a solution. Since her husband’s recent death she has realized there were many things she isn’t able to do, at least not now. Whenever a task comes to mind, maybe something her husband had always done, or one that feels overwhelming she writes it on a list. The ongoing list stays on her fridge.
When she gets a “call if you need anything,” offer she snaps a photo of her help list, and texts or emails it to them. I love that idea! Last week after sending the list to a friend, a group from her church showed up at her door. In a few hours they were able to knock out the entire list!
The goodness she experienced served two purposes: * The newly widowed woman now recognizes she is not facing this heartbreaking season alone; and * People who care about her were blessed by providing the exact help she needed.
What would you write on your fridge help list today? Don’t be afraid to let someone see it.
