running up

then down

my spine
no warmth

coursing through

my body


This is fear in its finest

adrenaline coursing

enlivening
preparing it for action


It's going to be alright
maybe he'll be safe

wrapped in my waiting arms

 

Perhaps it's okay
She might even say
'no cancer today'

 

She didn’t

During the holidays my wife and I were having a discussion about our Being With Grief meetup group. We started this group over a year ago and now have over 60 members. That number tells us there are a lot of people out there who recognize that they are suffering and grieving for one reason or another. Yet, only a handful of those people actually show up at each meeting.

Meet my friend Lisa. She and I met at a conference where she shared a little of her story. Just a few months earlier Lisa had lost part of her heart, with the death of her beloved sister, Brandi. As you might imagine the pain is still incredibly fresh as she and her family make their way through all the firsts- holidays and special days since Brandi’s death.

After losing my husband, soulmate, lover, best friend and sounding board, I did not know where to go or what to do. The funeral was over. Friends and family went home and on with their lives. My house which was filled with people was suddenly empty. The hospital bed that my husband used was gone.
